Summary

Hades, God of the Dead, does not take sides or bend the rules。 He makes no exceptions to these values—not for god or mortal, even his lover, Persephone, Goddess of Spring。

Usually, fear prevents retaliation。

But not this time。

When Hera, Goddess of Women, approaches Hades with a plan to overthrow Zeus, he declines to offer help。 As punishment, Hera sentences Hades to perform a series of labors。 Each feat seems more impossible than the last and draws his attention away from Persephone—whose own tragedy has left her questioning whether she can be Queen of the Underworld。

Scarlett St。 Clair has done it again。 I absolutely love this series。 I admit that I really missed Hermes' presence in A Game of Fate, a hole which was filled so well by this sequel! So much happened in the background for Hades to love Persephone and it makes me love him even more。 I can't wait for the third Hades POV and the next Persephone POV。 Things are heating up and I am so excited to see where Scarlett takes this next。 Scarlett St。 Clair has done it again。 I absolutely love this series。 I admit that I really missed Hermes' presence in A Game of Fate, a hole which was filled so well by this sequel! So much happened in the background for Hades to love Persephone and it makes me love him even more。 I can't wait for the third Hades POV and the next Persephone POV。 Things are heating up and I am so excited to see where Scarlett takes this next。 。。。more

This is the second installment in St。 Clair's Hades saga。 This is the story in the Touch of Ruin series but from Hades perspective。 This was an interesting perspective and it's been a minute since I read the companion book for this from Persephone's perspective。 It was interesting to me to see how a lot of the conflict changed for me。 As you read the same story from multiple perspectives changes the way I think about the conflict and I feel myself moving from purely on Persephone's side to now u This is the second installment in St。 Clair's Hades saga。 This is the story in the Touch of Ruin series but from Hades perspective。 This was an interesting perspective and it's been a minute since I read the companion book for this from Persephone's perspective。 It was interesting to me to see how a lot of the conflict changed for me。 As you read the same story from multiple perspectives changes the way I think about the conflict and I feel myself moving from purely on Persephone's side to now understanding where the communication breakdown happens between these two characters。I love these stories and I find the world building here interesting, but sometimes I get tripped up in what exactly the rules are。 They seem to change so quickly and there are no rules for gods。 Overall, I found this book to be a fun time reading and visiting my friends。 。。。more

I loved reading A Touch Of Ruin from Hades POV。 I especially enjoy seeing more of the relationships between Hades, Hermes and Hecate。 It was nice seeing why Hades seemed so much more absent or busy when we were reading Persephone's POV。 While the love senses are still plentiful, their relationship is believable with the very human issues they still deal with such as lying to try to save your partner from heartache。 I was also glad to see that Hades didn't give Hera any redeeming qualities in his I loved reading A Touch Of Ruin from Hades POV。 I especially enjoy seeing more of the relationships between Hades, Hermes and Hecate。 It was nice seeing why Hades seemed so much more absent or busy when we were reading Persephone's POV。 While the love senses are still plentiful, their relationship is believable with the very human issues they still deal with such as lying to try to save your partner from heartache。 I was also glad to see that Hades didn't give Hera any redeeming qualities in his thoughts and dealing with her。 I understand that she's Sephy's mom but she's just a bully。 We get so see Persephone coming into her power without the self doubt from her mind and in excited to see her blossom further and to see Hades pride in her growth。#AGameofRetribution #NetGalley 。。。more

I just love Scarlett's retelling of Hades and Persephone。 In her typical fashion we are taken on a wild ride of romance, fighting, miscommunication, and smut - lots of smut。 If you have read A Touch of Ruin then you already have a good idea of the story line BUT this is told from Hades' POV and it doesn't disappoint。 I personally enjoy the Hades perspective most。 Sometimes Persephone can get on my nerves with how she handles things BUT that makes sense with her character and the continued develo I just love Scarlett's retelling of Hades and Persephone。 In her typical fashion we are taken on a wild ride of romance, fighting, miscommunication, and smut - lots of smut。 If you have read A Touch of Ruin then you already have a good idea of the story line BUT this is told from Hades' POV and it doesn't disappoint。 I personally enjoy the Hades perspective most。 Sometimes Persephone can get on my nerves with how she handles things BUT that makes sense with her character and the continued development we are seeing。 My only note would be if you've already read A Touch of Malice and know how that one ends - it can be a little bit of a struggle going back to this story, but again, totally worth it and definitely gives us missing insight。From an audiobook standpoint - the narrator does a great job and adds touches to secondary characters that I never thought to do in my head。 My only issue was he is not how I hear Hades in my head haha but that's a personal thing and has nothing to do with the narrator himself。Overall, I definitely recommend checking out this audiobook (just make sure there aren't little ears around)! *3。5 I enjoyed the book because I am weak for any Hades x Persephone retellings。 My only problem is the communication between the two characters, or lack thereof。 I know that the whole point was the growth of Hades and learning to communicate better, but it was basically the entire plot and so many issues could be solved by just talking。 The spice was great though and I still love the world that Scarlett has written。 Can’t wait to find out the conclusion and the epic battle that awaits in 2023。

“Their eyes met, and all Hades could see when he looked at her was his queen。” (408)Hades, per usual, finds himself in a bind。When he refuses to side with Hera in overthrowing her husband—and Hades’ brother—Zeus, Hades must complete a series of labors in order to win Hera’s favor。 Which, is important if Hades wants to marry Persephone—something he very much wants。See, Hera is the Goddess of Women but she also oversees marriages。 Getting her favor will be essential in getting Zeus to bless Hades “Their eyes met, and all Hades could see when he looked at her was his queen。” (408)Hades, per usual, finds himself in a bind。When he refuses to side with Hera in overthrowing her husband—and Hades’ brother—Zeus, Hades must complete a series of labors in order to win Hera’s favor。 Which, is important if Hades wants to marry Persephone—something he very much wants。See, Hera is the Goddess of Women but she also oversees marriages。 Getting her favor will be essential in getting Zeus to bless Hades and Persephone’s union。 As both Hades and Persephone are Divine, they must attain Zeus’s blessing to marry。 Persephone’s mother, Demeter— the Goddess of Harvest—will certainly object。 Demeter believes Hades stole her daughter away。 Never mind that Persephone is a grown goddess who can make her own choices…Anyway, the more Gods and Goddesses in favor of their union, the better。Which brings us back to Hades and Hera’s list of errands。 Hera’s got him running across realms, slaying monsters and retrieving sacred objects。Fortunately, Hades is able to run his own errands while completing these tasks。 See, he’s been keeping tabs on an anti-Divine group known as Triad。 This group has been gaining power lately, mostly through the acquisition of relics。 These items are imbued with Divine power which can be used against gods。 Several gods and mortals with the favor of gods have been viciously attacked。While the other Olympians don’t believe mortals can ever be a true threat to gods, Hades is not so sure。 More, the further he investigates, the more he realizes that there may be a god or two throwing their lots in with Triad in hopes for a new world order。Worse, it seems Persephone may be a key target in order to enact the plans this group has…。Will Hades be able to protect what he holds most dear or will he watch his heart be ripped away from him?So, I’ve never thought of myself as a Romance fan。 Then, I discovered this series about Hades x Persephone and I realized I actually AM a romance fan under the right circumstances。I’m quite addicted to this series。 I mean, I’ve read 5 books in under two weeks??? I’m caught up and greatly anticipating the books to come…But, anyway, about this book in particular—I enjoyed it! When it to companion series, I’m always a little skeptical about what new information they’ll actually bring to a story。 Like, why tell the same story twice? What’s the point? But, I enjoy how this author has crafted an interesting and compelling *new* plot that readers can see is unfolding behind the scenes of the main Persephone storyline。 I think that’s a clever and functional approach。In this book, we get to learn more about Triad and it’s composition as well as which Divine brings are assisting the group。 This is still wholly a romance book but we do get a lot more expository exploration of the antagonizing force in this world that I find is not present in Persephone’s series。 Which, isn’t a critique。 It makes sense that Hades’ story would have more of this information since he’s the one who directly dabbles in and, often, oversees shady undertakings。Anyway, as mentioned, I’m looking forward to reading more! I really appreciate this reimagining of the Hades and Persephone myth。 While some of its commentary [beyond the romance] can be “clumsy” at points, I do overall think this story is trying to be more conscientious of the implications of the inspirations we use。 (Man, that’s a clumsy sentence!) But, what I mean, is that this series, while still fantasy, doesn’t shy away from addressing some of the f*cked up things the gods in our stories have done and I applaud that to some degree。 It’s so easy to romanticize mythology—especially in a romance book! But, this series is at least trying a different approach~Definitely recommend! 。。。more

Throughout the sadnesss and the anger, there was also so much love between Hades and Persephone as they worked through their respective obstacles to reach their true destiny。 Intensely steamy, the fire between them reflected their all consuming love so it never seemed like too much with the sex scenes。Stunningly descriptive, I felt fully immersed in the setting and the characters, appreciating the contrast between the darkness surrounding Hades and the lightness in the purity and innocence inherent in Persephone。 Hades and Persephone balanced one another perfectly, bringing forth the strengths behind their weaknesses。I loved Persephone's independent spirit as she built her magic and tried to find her place as Queen of the Underworld。 By offering a voice to those in need at the same time she was experiencing her own tragic loss, she also embodied empowerment and justice。 It was beautiful to see Persephone expose the hidden vulnerability in Hades while his love for her made him fiercely protective。 Never breaking his rules, Hades learned to open himself up while he faced his doubts and fears。Perhaps most significantly throughout the evolving character development, this story highlighted the importance of unconditional love and trust at the core of any relationship。 "I love you。 Even if the Fates unraveled our destiny, I would find a way back to you。"The author clearly has a passion for this story and for staying true to the details of its origins in Greek mythology while writing it with a modern update。 After reading this, I am planning to go back and read A Game of Fate to learn more before the next book in the series releases。** Special thanks to Sourcebooks/Bloom Books and NetGalley for granting my wish, giving me the opportunity to read and review this ARC。 All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own。 Quotes subject to change at time of publication。 Available May 31, 2022。 ** 。。。more

A Game of Retribution was much better than A Game of Fate, I'm saying it now。The thing that bugged me with the first Hades book, is that it felt like the exact same book as A Touch of Darkness just from a different PoV。。。which is exactly what it was。 This was fixed in the second novel, and we got to see a lot more of Hades on his own (or behind the scenes if you will)。 That was honestly a blast, and makes this book better than A Touch of Ruin too。 Likewise, in Persephone's PoV she was a lot more A Game of Retribution was much better than A Game of Fate, I'm saying it now。The thing that bugged me with the first Hades book, is that it felt like the exact same book as A Touch of Darkness just from a different PoV。。。which is exactly what it was。 This was fixed in the second novel, and we got to see a lot more of Hades on his own (or behind the scenes if you will)。 That was honestly a blast, and makes this book better than A Touch of Ruin too。 Likewise, in Persephone's PoV she was a lot more annoying than seeing her in Hades's PoV now。 I almost didn't feel like she regressed in her confidence/powers, but it was still evident, just to a lesser degree。 This book also jumps around a lot less than the first, so there is some continuity (but if you're new to the series I'd still say read Persephone's PoV before this since it could potentially get confusing)。 I got the impression that the steam was more prominent here, and it didn't bother me, there was an added scene that was really cool。 While I'm at added scenes, I love that we saw what Zofie did。 I figured she'd tell Persephone at some later date when she was ready, but it's also nice that we finally know。 And the thing I was hoping for, but didn't get is Minthe。 No reaction to her plant-ification whatsoever。 Perhaps it'll be in another book? I badly want to see it。 My hopes for book three of this series are that there will be minimal overlapping scenes。 I only want to read about Hades's shenanigans, please and thank you。 And yeah, that cliffhanger ending was cruel, as expected。 *Thank you to the publishers and NetGalley for providing me with an e-ARC in exchange for an honest review* 。。。more

3。25 starsThank you NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange of a honest opinion。A Game of Retribution is the second book with Hades POV, following the story of "A Touch of Ruin"。 As a fan of the series, I was really excited for this book and although it was nice to see some of my favorite characters again, it felt very much as a re-read。 I really enjoyed to see the "backstage" of Hades dealings, some of his interactions with the other Gods and Titans away from Persephone but I think it wasn't 3。25 starsThank you NetGalley for providing an ARC in exchange of a honest opinion。A Game of Retribution is the second book with Hades POV, following the story of "A Touch of Ruin"。 As a fan of the series, I was really excited for this book and although it was nice to see some of my favorite characters again, it felt very much as a re-read。 I really enjoyed to see the "backstage" of Hades dealings, some of his interactions with the other Gods and Titans away from Persephone but I think it wasn't enough。 In particular, his interactions with Persephone from his point of view just made me annoyed with her for always doing the complete opposite of what she was supposed to do and ask questions later (I think I was able to accept some of her actions in the main series)。 Additionally, I love some spice in my books but I think it was a bit too much when I noticed I was skimming through those scenes because I had already seen that before。The positive points was Hermes and Hecate。 I like their relationship with Hades very much and I was savoring the book every time they came into the scene。 I also liked to see the foreshadowing of the war that is about to happen after reading "A Touch of Malice"。 Overall is a fun read but if you want to stick with the main series, you will get the message the same way。 。。。more

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。I read this as an audiobook and I’m conflicted on whether or not I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read an e-book or physical copy。 The narrator did a wonderful job, don’t get me wrong, but it did feel one-dimensional for a lot of his reading。 I did rather enjoy his take on Hermes though! In terms of the story, I did find at times I was very invested, and then wit I received a complimentary copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher。 Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。I read this as an audiobook and I’m conflicted on whether or not I would’ve enjoyed it more had I read an e-book or physical copy。 The narrator did a wonderful job, don’t get me wrong, but it did feel one-dimensional for a lot of his reading。 I did rather enjoy his take on Hermes though! I will say however, there is a very nice amount of spice in this read! However, I don’t know if that alone would entice me to read further into the series。If you enjoy a good Hades and Persephone spicy read, definitely consider picking this up! 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 *POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD! This book was set alongside the events of the book, “A Touch of Ruin”, so if you haven’t read that book, GO READ IT! Since everything mentioned in this book is connected。 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read the books in order starting with, “A Touch of Darkness”, everything’s connected and it’ll make more sense, and enhance the experience of seeing what Persephone and Hades went through individually。This book was from Hades point of view during the events of “A Touch Of Ruin”, *POTENTIAL SPOILERS AHEAD! Since everything mentioned in this book is connected。 I HIGHLY RECOMMEND you read the books in order starting with, “A Touch of Darkness”, everything’s connected and it’ll make more sense, and enhance the experience of seeing what Persephone and Hades went through individually。This book was from Hades point of view during the events of “A Touch Of Ruin”, but like the other books it was told from third person P。O。V。 Hades had his own problems to deal with from an ex lover reappearing, to Hera’s labors to complete in order to have a marry Persephone one day, and mortals trying to overthrow the Gods。 When I read, “A Touch of Ruin”, my heart broke for Persephone and especially for Lexa, but it was something in the storyline that Persephone had never experienced which was grief, losing someone close to her。 While Persephone was dealing with a lot in that book, in this book it really cleared up some things that I didn’t know, and revealed more about what was truly happening with Hades during, “A Touch of Ruin”。Honestly Scarlett could have easily just kept writing the main books as it’s own, but by writing these books (Hades Saga) it connected everything, and revealed strong insight into Hades life, his thoughts, and feelings。 Once again, highly recommend reading these books in order as well。 Hades story reflected not only his own obstacles he had to overcome, but also him trying to learn how to allow Persephone to remain independent, and not too overprotective despite his fears that other Gods might hurt her as revenge/leverage against him。 After the events of the first book, “A Touch of Darkness”, Hades and Persephone’s relationship was revealed to all of New Greece。 In a way, Hades and Persephone were still adapting to their relationship since they got back together and trying to figure each other out, but with the hordes of people wanting to know everything about them, and nefarious people like Kal trying to blackmail Hades, it seemed like the lovely couple had a lot on their plates。 Hades and Persephone’s relationship was a combination of learning to navigate of being together, and also finding balance。 Despite having some arguments and disagreements on Persephone writing the article about Apollo or Hades not telling Persephone about Luece, they always managed to work things out, and talk it over。 Having good communication is key to any relationship and while Hades and Persephone sometimes struggled, they always managed to get to the root of their issues, but of course there were obstacles for them in order to get to that point。 This book covered a bit of a heavy topic(s) so make sure to look up trigger warnings (warning also included in first page of book before reading)。 With topics of suicide, assault, and loss of a loved one, this story was different compared to the previous books。 Yes there was still some violence and blood due to Hades torture against souls or those who wanted to harm Persephone, but this time it was different。 When i read, “A Touch of Ruin”, I got to see Persephone’s side of the story and specifically how she tried dealing with Lexa’s death, and subsequently tried bringing her back despite Hades telling her that wasn’t possible。 In “A Game of Retribution” not only were the stakes high for Hades but also throwing in Persephone trying to revive Lexa and trying to go up against God’s like Apollo, Hades was usually in a state of worry, anger, and concern over Persephone。Now while this book dealt with some heavy topics, there was still some of that good old humor that Scarlett included such as, through Hectate, Hermès, and Hades and Persephone’s flirty banter。 Some of the funny parts were probably mostly from Hermès, that god truly had no shame and was hilarious。 Of course I also enjoyed the SPICY SCENES WHOOP WHOOP! Like I knew there was spice in this book, but… omg! These new scenes were delectable, all I gotta say is, if I think about Hades and Persephone with a camera…WOW (If you know, you know!) the romance and spice was great as always。This story had me feeling anxious, sad, happy, and overall wanting more。 Yup I had a mixture of lots of emotions while reading。 I felt sympathetic towards each Hades and Persephone。 Each was dealing with a lot and at times I was worried about their relationship。 Yes I already knew what was going to happen since I read “A Touch of Ruin”, but reading it through Hades P。O。V。 made it feel like I was reading a different part of the plot。 Overall, I enjoyed this book, and it was great jumping back into the world of Greek mythology but with Scarlett’s take on it。 。。。more

Hades: I need to fuck, a drink, and calm Persephone downWhich happens every other fucking page。 Like I get it, it’s a smut book but gods can we go five minutes without a scene of how he needs to be in Persephone。 Can we get more fluff to make this more realistic or at least more of a focus on why Hades is so distant。 Like he barely knew what Persephone was doing outside of sex and some of the stupid shit she was up to or even discuss what they both are person wise。Like I know it’s smut but can w Hades: I need to fuck, a drink, and calm Persephone downWhich happens every other fucking page。 Like I get it, it’s a smut book but gods can we go five minutes without a scene of how he needs to be in Persephone。 Can we get more fluff to make this more realistic or at least more of a focus on why Hades is so distant。 Like he barely knew what Persephone was doing outside of sex and some of the stupid shit she was up to or even discuss what they both are person wise。Like I know it’s smut but can we get smut with character/plot development cuz there’s a lot of interesting stuff in there just needs more development。 。。。more
